Telematics, Vehicle Monitoring & Diagnostics
When adding GPS and modem options, DAWN becomes a wireless data logger and event recorder. This provides several telematics features such as automatic data file transfers, controlling the remote data logger, monitoring & diagnostics, and simultaneously seeing data on your PC while the remote logger is storing data on its CF card.
Telematics is defined as the science of sending, receiving and storing information via telecommunication devices specifically Global Positioning System (GPS) technology integrated with computers and mobile communications technology. Telematics is an integral feature of the DAWN data loggers.
1. Automatic Data File Transfers
Automatically sending data from the vehicle each time the vehicle’s ignition is shutoff:
- Provides the user with the most recent data file,
- Increases productivity since it does not require a person to go to the vehicle and copy the files manually,
- Reliably transfers data at the first opportunity at minimal cost.
2. Control Logger
The Logger panel controls the data logger remotely as easily as if it was directly connected to the PC.
The Logger Panel shows the status of the logger, and allows you to start and stop it from your office.
3. Manually Transfer Data Files
Select the logger’s data files of interest and either copy or move them to your PC. Also, you have the ability to delete data files once they have been successfully transferred back to you.
4. Reconfigure the Logger
With DawnTransfer and DawnConfig, you have the ability to reconfigure the remote logger. In addition, update the logger’s software, and reboot it if needed.
5. Monitoring & Diagnostics / Event Recorder
DAWN reads the standard OBD trouble and pending codes as well as the manufacturer specific Enhanced Diagnostic codes. Data acquisition can be triggered to start if a code is tripped. The user has the option of defining additional conditions to monitor. Virtually an unlimited number of user-defined conditions can be specified. If any of them occur, then data will be acquired and stored. This is extremely helpful for catching pesky intermittent problems.
6. Real-time Data from the Remote Logger on Your PC
If an interesting condition has occurred or if the user just wants to be sure the logger is working as anticipated, the user has the option to see data in real-time on his PC in his office while the remote logger is storing data in the vehicle. DAWN acquires data at an aggregate rate of 400 samples/sec, which is 100X faster than most systems.
