Showing The Data File Name In The Display Element

When users are running a large number of data files for post-processing in Snap-Master, they often want to have the name of the data file appear in the Display window so it shows up on any hard copy printouts. There is a simple way to get the file name as well as other information included directly in the Display element, using the DDE capabilities of the Text Label object.

Using The DDE Options In The Text Label

Let’s assume we have a simple instrument that replays data files for plotting in the Display element. The instrument would look like this:

Snap-Master Instrument

In our Display element, we want to get the file name RELAYTST.DAT to appear on the printout. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In the Display element, select the Layout menu command. Insert a new Y-T Plot in the Display Layout dialog, but DO NOT assign any channels to the plot. Close the Display Layout dialog.

2. Click on the button , move the cursor over the blank Y-T plot, and click again. This drops a new text object on the Y-T plot.
3. Double click on the text object to open the Text Settings dialog.

4. In the Label edit control at the top of the dialog, delete the Text.
5. In the DDE Request Information group, select the Snap-Master radio button. Select the Disk In item from the Element combo box, and turn off the Show checkbox. Select File Name from the Parameter combo box, and leave the Show checkbox turned on.
6. Close the Text Settings dialog.

When you return to the Display window, you should see the File Name where you placed the text object. You may need to move it around so the entire path and file name appears in the window.
