When running under Windows 95, you may not get the DDE In element to recognize a NetDDE compliant network. There are two tasks you must perform to enable this capability: add an entry to SM.INI (located in the DEFUSER directory of your installation), and run the NETDDE.EXE application.
Changes to SM.INI
Open SM.INI using a text editor (such as Notepad). Find the [Options] group and add a new line after it. The new line reads:
WFWEnabled=Yes
This enables the Network portion of the DDE In Conversation dialog.
Running NETDDE
The following information was extracted from a Microsoft Knowledge Base note regarding NetDDE and Windows 95 (PSS ID Number Q132736).
To run NetDDE programs in Windows 95, you must add a shortcut for Netdde.exe to the Startup group. To do so, use the following four steps:
- Use the right mouse button to click an empty space on the taskbar, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.
- On the Start Menu Programs tab, click Add.
- Use the Create Shortcut Wizard to create a shortcut for Netdde.exe in the Windows folder.
- After you create the shortcut, restart your computer.
